SimpliSafe
Indoor Camera
2015

As part of a complete redesign of the SimpliSafe home security system and experience, I collaborated with designer Jason Robinson to create a unified visual identity across a range of wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, and floor-mounted products in the SimpliSafe portfolio.

Each wall-mounted product in the portfolio needed to project approachability, reliability, and technical sophistication, while solving for a unique set of constraints that included high power density, variable mounting conditions (corner, flat wall, and stand-mounted) and cost.

A defining feature of the new design system was the sweeping gesture across the face of each wall-mounted product. This served as a neutral foundation to layer on unique functional elements, such as a camera lens, highlighting the purpose and use of each device. Perhaps our most important insight from design research with users was that highlighting each product’s purpose was incredibly important to helping people feel secure with a DIY system.

The resulting forms are clean and unobtrusive, designed to recede quietly into the home environment while clearly expressing their function.
