We partnered with wine technology company Coravin to design and develop a new method for pairing wine with experiences. With the goal of reaching new customers in mind, we designed Coravin Moments, an app that helps even the greenest newbies pair wine with everything from food to film to music. Coravin's hardware enables people to explore more types of wine. We wanted to create an experience that reinforces this spirit of exploration, both for wine aficionados who have the Coravin, as well as for rookies who have little more than a wine key.
The Moments pairing algorithm is the result of collaboration between sommeliers, data scientists, and designers. The result is a platform that pairs wine with traditional counterparts like food, as well as with more abstract compliments like your favorite David Bowie album.
Through user research and prototyping we identified a gap in current wine apps that overlooks the local wine expert, which is typically a person’s best chance at finding the right wine. The Moments algorithm -paired with contextual input from the user- equips people with simple, bespoke phrases that help turn intimidating interactions with experts into positive conversations.

Based on our user research, we quickly developed a clickable prototype in time for CES 2018. In partnership with Coravin and their development team at Pentalog, we helped develop the design, motion, and interaction for the MVP app launched in September 2019.
